I’m interested to be reminded that October 2 is the Feast of The Guardian Angels in Lydia’s Roman Catholic faith, in which I agreed to let our three daughters be brought up because of the infuriating degeneration of my ancestral Anglican Church.
I remain a Protestant and this multiplication of intercessory entities is somewhat alien to me (as is baroque art).
On the other hand, I derive great comfort from my recent discovery via Lydia of the great Prayer To Saint Michael, once mandated at the end of every Catholic mass, now optional post Vatican II, but nevertheless still said spontaneously by Lydia’s heroic congregation here in West Virginia:
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into Hell Satan and all of the other evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen
This is actually very useful when you have to explain to little girls why you can’t take them to DisneyWorld.
Oh, and October 2 is also Yom Kippur. the Jewish Day of Repentance. And Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, was September 23—sufficiently close to St Michaels Day (September 29) to be simultaneously celebrated, by contemporary multicult usage.
At VDARE.com, we never advocated a War On Yom Kippur to counter the War On Christmas. But it had become a multicultural must to step on Christmas by never mentioning it except in connection with other “holidays”, if necessary remotely connected, notably Hanukkah, aptly described by American Heritage’s Frederic Schwarz (December 2000) as the “Jewish Kwanzaa”. Somehow, however, the MSM neglects to provide the nearest Saint’s day in the Christian calendar to each year’s Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Passover—there are a lot of saints!
So it became a VDARE.com service (as so often) to fill the gap.
I am happy to continue this tradition, in defiance of New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Still, unlike the unpleasant War On Christmas perpetrators, I do wish everyone a Happy—sincerely.
What the hell is this religious nonsense?
