"The NYT Corrected Its Ludicrous George Floyd Homicide Graph ..."
It stealth-edits, but refuses to admit that Steve Sailer caught it in an error--just like it did with VDARE and myself
In response to Steve Sailer’s ridicule, The NEW YORK TIMES has now stealth-edited the web version of its May 24 chart (above) that attempted to hide the Floyd Effect’s impact on black homicides—but it has not acknowledged doing so in its print edition, although correcting such errors in print is its much-trumpeted official policy.
This is exactly what happened with VDARE and myself. In response to a lawyer’s letter, the NEW YORK TIMES stealth-edited its claim that I was an “open white nationalist", deleting “open” (and adding a link the the $PLC). It was in a tight spot because, while calling me a “white nationalist” is arguably an expression of opinion, “open white nationalist” was not—it was simply a fact that I had repeatedly denied it. (I think “white nationalism,” in the sense of defending white interests, is entirely legitimate, but I regard myself as a civic nationalists because the immigration restrictions I and VDARE.com advocated would benefit all races). But the NEW YORK TIMES refused to acknowledge the correction in print, although the original article had e.g. been read into the Congressional Record.
So we sued. But a judge said that, although saying I was an “open white nationalist” was clearly actionable, the stealth edit had made me whole—which of course it had not.
My conclusions:
(1) Judges will not go up against the NEW YORK TIMES (just as they won’t go up against the tech oligarchs);
(2) The effect of the SULLIVAN decision has been to give the MSM a License To Lie. This can’t go on;
(3) The NEW YORK TIMES is run by arrogant swine.
