Financing 6.300 word articles involving several months of research and travel is a tall order nowadays even for Legacy Media giants. Happily, for suitably Leftist outlets, the massively-funded ProPublica foundation is here to help.
Paradoxically, from an immigrant patriot point of view, this article actually reports the huge success of President Trump’s revival of the 287 (g) partnership program. This program enlists and financially incentivizes local law enforcement agencies “to perform specified immigration officer functions under ICE’s direction and oversight”.
The article, which takes the town of Ingram TX (110 miles from the Mexican border) and one of its two patrol officers, Jaron Alexander, as a case study, bewails that by the end of 2025
Ingram was by then one of more than 750 task force model partners around the country, up from not quite 500 when it signed up in October.
As of October 27, 2026 2:10 pm ICE has signed 2,618 Memorandums of Agreement for 287(g) programs covering 38 states and 2 U.S. Territories.
Grok says that at the end of 2024 at the close of the Biden Presidency only 135 agreements were in force. Both Obama and Biden were against these arrangements, because they worked.
Ingram bore the full brunt of the Biden No Borders policy. Latinos had come to make up 45% of the population (the 2020 census had said 32.4%), some residents were calling it “mini Guanajuato,” (the central Mexican state from which many came) and saying that Mexicans were taking over the town.
ProPublica disapprovingly says the City Council of Ingram consists of six white men. Ingram is in Kerr County, which voted 76.73% for President Trump in 2024 (and almost identically in 2016 and 2020).
The hero of this story (from the immigration patriot point of view) is Officer Jaron Alexander. He pointed out to his Chief the resources available via 287 (g) and went into action with his colleagues towards the end of 2025.
With spectacular effect. As of August 194 individuals had been handed over to ICE - ProPublica says 10% of the town!
As Latinos fled and avoided Ingram, the daily takeout orders at one Mexican restaurant on the edge of town dropped to 50 from 200. A corner store catering to immigrants lost around half its revenue and most of its Latino regulars. Landlords in a mobile-home park just outside town struggled to find tenants.
Most of the ProPublica article consists, literally, of sob stories, complete with a supporting video. A couple of local businessmen have been found to, predictably, whine about the loss of their cheap workers. Somehow ProPublica was able to invade Alexander’s privacy to obtain his pay stubs
…city records show that his earnings from the agency already totaled $18,793.25 in nine months, more than a quarter of his base salary.
Alexander’s irrefutable defense:
“If you’re taking federal money to do a job,” he says, “I think you should do the job.”
(Of course, stopping people who realize he might trigger their deportation must increase the risk of his being injured by far more than the 33% proportion to which this equates. To say nothing of the dangers created for him by ProPublica:
…he tries to do his shopping and errands in another town 30 minutes away.
In reality, the account reveals Alexander to be a compassionate man, who sometimes drops matters when wailed at enough (and lied to, as ProPublica reports, without disapproval). Not surprisingly, he is showing signs of battle fatigue, much to ProPublica’s delight.
Patriots fighting for their Country often get battle fatigue.
So whence came the funds to create this massive hit piece?
Herbert Sandler (1931-2019 and his wife Marion Sandler (1930 - 2012), both Jewish, founded and built up Great West Financial Corporation. Benefiting greatly from the minority mortgage lending bubble, they adroitly sold the business in late 2006 (right at the top) to the Wachovia Bank for $24 billion. Their share of this according to Wikipedia was some $2.4 billion. Before the end of 2008, huge losses on this portfolio forced the venerable Wachovia into a rescue/merger.
In late 2008 the NBC Saturday Night Live show produced one of its greatest skits about this episode, prominently featuring the Sandlers (from 5:03)
“Nancy Pelosi”: This is Herbert and Marion Sandler. Tell us your story.
“Herbert Sandler”: My wife and I had a company which aggressively marketed sub prime mortgages and the bundled them to sell to Banks such as Wachovia. Today our portfolio is worth almost nothing though at one point it was worth close to $19 Billion.”
“Nancy Pelosi”: My God! I am so sorry. Were you able to sell it for anything?
“Herbert Sandler”: Yes. For $24 Billion.
“Nancy Pelosi”: “I see. So in that sense…you’re not actual victims?”
“Herb Sandler”: “No…ho ho ho. That would be Wachovia Bank… And thank you Congressman Frank, as well as many Republicans, for helping block Congressional oversight of our corrupt activities,”
With half their loot, the Sandlers set up The Sandler Foundation which has an impeccable list of Leftist recipients, and also ProPublica, precisely to fund major investigative journalism projects of this type.
I have no doubt both Sandlers would be delighted to see their money being spent to impede immigration law enforcement and to obstruct by intimidation the efforts of a small American town to avoid being swamped by foreigners.
On an alert reading of this account, President Trump’s activation of 287(g)’s Task Force Model has been a smashing success for Ingram Texas.
But it calls for valiant patriots on the ground.
No wonder ProPublica and The New York Times are so anxious to intimidate Jaron Alexander and his heroic colleagues.
