"Were" is correct. See subjunctive mood: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_subjunctive

Good to know, Peter. Not to trivialise what I'm sure are trying circumstances, but college is overrated these days.

Great news Peter. It might not be much, and a little late in coming (to say the least), but I think it's part of a turn that the hostile elite is making, no doubt to cover it's own ass. The reason can be found in the title of the Post article, in short, James fixating on enemies while ignoring corruption.

To ignore corruption is to undermine one's power. Hence the need to go after its paid proxies and useful idiots, two roles created, in part, to take the fall for the hostile elite when things go belly up, as they are now, and everywhere. And the proxies and idiots HAVE to take the fall because what is really being exposed here is that the hostile elite is no good as social management, which it needs to be to sustain its power. As we speak the hostile elite is learning that it can not sustain their power in the same way that power was acquired - scapegoating. After all, a more tenuous hold on power than scapegoating would be impossible to imagine. In this case, to use their own words from the 60's against them, The Whole World Is Watching! And now we're back to why not a few of their proxies and idiots are taking the fall for them, and why I think this is great news for VDARE, and not just VDARE.
